new life drawings

After a long break, I scanned some life drawings again. These nudes are from the first two classes of the current semester (which is my last, actually):

The first three poses were 1 minute, the other two 10 min.

I Want a Cat

I recently drew a comic page for an interesting comicjam at INKplosion. It's a story called "I Want a Cat 2 - Certainly Not a Cat!" (the sequel to "I Want a Cat"), which starts with a page by Yann Krehl & Steffi Schütze to which a number of other artists created possible second pages. Among these other artists, there are a lot of JAZAM! contributors including, naturally, myself.

Read the whole comicjam here. (there is also a German version)

This is my page:

JAZAM! stuff: festival report & interview

The new fourth issue of JAZAM! was presented and sold at the Comicfestival München a little over two weeks ago. There's a nice report of it with lots of photos at the JAZAM! blog.

The new books are here now and can be ordered at our website.

A new interview with me about JAZAM! is now online on Comicgate. Read it here.

radio interview

Tomorrow, I'm part of a radio broadcast about the current state of the comics medium. The discussion will air on tuesday, june 16, from 9:00 to 11:00 pm on the new Bavarian radio station egoFM, which can be received in Munich, Nuremberg, Augsburg, Regensburg, and Würzburg, and on the net. As far as I know, the discussion will be available online afterwards.

Read more about it here.

they're here!

I picked up my minicomic Hipsters vs. Monsters from the printer today and I'm really happy about it. I printed 100 issues which I will sell at the Comicfestival Munich for the next 4 days at the JAZAM! booth. This is how it looks:

Sadly, the printer messed up and didn't finish JAZAM! vol. 4 in time. Maybe we will get some of the books friday afternoon. This sucks.

"Hipsters vs. Monsters" minicomic

"Hipsters vs. Monsters" is a little 20-page comic book that I just finished and which I'm going to self-publish in time for the Comicfestival München. If you are not going to attend the Comicfestival and don't have any other chance to meet me in person, you can order it via E-Mail for 2 € (+0.60 € shipping in Germany). Below is the cover and a 3-page preview (click to enlarge).

Story synopsis from the back of the book (in German):
"Das kleine Monster Xovi und seine Freunde finden in ihrer Welt ein Portal, das sie geradewegs in die Herrentoilette des enorm angesagten 'Red Star Club' führt. Doch die ortsansässigen Hipster sind nicht gerade begeistert über die ungebetenen Gäste..."

JAZAM! vol. 4

The new volume of the German independent comic anthology JAZAM! is almost here. The book (with the theme "monsters") is currently in print and can be pre-ordered at our newly redesigned website. We will present and sell the book at the Munich Comicfestival (June 11-14).

The book is 356 pages strong, costs 15 €, and contains comics and illustrations by 68 different artists from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Plenty of previews and all kinds of JAZAM!-related news can be found on our blog.

I'm one of the editors of the book, responsible for layout and design, and contributed an 11-page comic story and one page for a cool comicjam. These are the first two pages of my story "Nutzmenschen" (click to enlarge):

sometimes I'm afraid that people are going to eat me

This is one of my rare non-digital works. It's a pastel drawing/painting mix done on a huge cardboard. Took me quite a while to finish because I wasn't sure about that little guy in the middle.

In the fourth volume of JAZAM!, there will be not only my previously mentioned 11-page comic, but also a fun 13-page comicjam, of which I drew one page. Here's a panel from said page:

after a long break...

...I finally got to do some life drawing again in the last week of my internship at HahnFilm in Berlin. We mostly did very short poses (30 sec. - 2 min.), which was great for practice but didn't produce a whole lot of presentable results. Still, I scanned a small selection:
