Babble & Doodle

Two weeks ago, I was invited to record an episode of Beetlebum, Jeff, and Doppeltim's cool new video podcast "Babble & Doodle". It's a very fun format that allows you to listen to us babble on about comics, life, and other stuff, while watching us draw new installments of our respective webcomics. Watch it now:

HIPSTERS vs. Robots pts. 18 & 19

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to finish a lot of Hipsters strips in the last couple of weeks, mostly due to a lot of work. However, my timetable looks a bit less crowded now and I should be able to get the comic out a little more regularly in the next few weeks. Here are the last two strips:

"2013, Fuck Yeah!" calendar

A few weeks ago, webcartoonista extraordinaire Schlogger came up with the idea of a calendar featuring all the coolest German webcomic artists. (two per month!) I'm proud to have been asked to participate and even got my birth month october. Here's a preview of my illustration:

You can order the calendar right now at Kwimbi. It's just €10!

More info, including a full list of the 26 (!) participating artists and David Füleki's cool cover image, can be found right here at Schlogger's blog.

new Affection Play song

As I may have mentioned before, I'm not only a cartoonist and illustrator, but also a singer/keyboarder/songwriter in a sort-of amateurish alternative-rock band called Affection Play. Because of some personell changes and because we had a hard time finding an affordable studio for recording new material, we haven't really put out a lot of music in the last few years, neither live nor recorded. Hopefully, that's going to change now. To start things off, we just uploaded our first official single "Intelligent People Are Rarely Happy", which you can listen to right here:

It's a "pre-release" version and not a final mix, which is why we're not offering a download at this time. Once our entire album/EP/whatever is finished in a couple of weeks/months, a download option of some kind will become available. In the meantime, you can listen to this one online. Let me know what you think!

The main reason why we're putting this song out right now is that we have a live gig in two weeks (nov. 30). It's an aids benefit concert with some other cool bands such as Munich indie sensation Pardon Ms. Arden. I'd love for you to stop by if you're in or around Munich, Germany! Get more info at our facebook event.

Here's another look at the "cd cover" I designed:

24h comic "Infiltrated" (English version)

As I promised last weekend, I spent the last week translating my recent 24h comic into English. Click on the page below to start reading my creepy little body-horror story:

The German version continues to be available at MyComics.de

Also, check out my last post for links to some of the other 24h comics by my pals from the Weimar event.

HIPSTERS vs. Robots pts. 15 & 16 & 17

There were some delays in this bunch, but also a very special strip! Well, the strip itself wasn't that special (or at least not any more special than usual), but it was my 100th Hipsters webcomic strip! Yay! Here you go:

24h Comic "Infiltriert" (German version)

I've finally completed the comic I drew at the 24h Comic Day in Weimar last weekend. While I wrote and drew all 24 pages in the 24h timespan, I've added digital grey-shading in the last couple of days. I think it turned out pretty okay, even though the sleep deprivation and exhaustion probably shows in some places. (and in the weird-ass story)

Click on the 1st page to go to MyComics.de and read the entire 24-page comic:

So far, the comic is only available in German. I'll probably publish an English translation in a week or so.

Some other 24h comics from the Weimar event:
Doppeltim
Flausen
Beetlebum
Pete
Jeff Chi
Kathi Netolitzky
Dirk Wachsmuth
Steffen
(I'll add more as they show up online)

24h Comic Day 2012

These past two days, I was in Weimar, participating in Schwarzer Turm's 24h Comic Day event. In case you don't know, the 24h Comic Day (as invented by Scott McCloud) is a day on which cartoonists all over the world spend 24 consecutive hours trying to draw at least 24 comic pages. It's a pretty tough challenge, but I finally decided to give it a try this year and joined Beetlebum, Doppeltim, Jeff Chi, Pete, Lapinot, Kathi, Yinfinity, Flausen-Ulf, and many others in Weimar to do this. And wouldn't you know it, I (and a few others) actually succeeded! I managed to write and draw a complete 24-page comic and even had some time to spare at the end. I'm not sure if the comic is actually any good (it's pretty weird and yucky), but it feels good to have made it, anyway.

It's going to take me a few days to scan and clean up all the pages, but until then, you can have a look at the complete comic as it hung on the wall shortly after I'd finished it:

influence map

A couple of years ago, there was this meme going around DeviantArt in which you were supposed to make a "map" of the artists and other things that shaped and informed your art style. I actually wanted to make one of these way back then, but never got around to it. Now that the meme has cropped back up at the Comicforum.de, I finally decided to make one. Here it is:

HERE is the Comicforum thread with some other examples.

JAZAM! presents: The Meaning of Life

As I already mentioned earlier, JAZAM! is participating in the Comic Clash comic contest, in which 19 German-language comic magazines battle for honor and glory. I drew a 4-page story for JAZAM!'s contribution and did the editorial design, as usual. The finished book is now for sale at the JAZAM! shop. ORDER IT NOW! It's 68 pages in color for a measly 5€!

Also, you can now give your vote in the contest at the Comic Clash website. VOTE HERE! You can repeat that process every 24h if you like.

HIPSTERS webcomic 071 & 072

Whoa! Did I forget to post the last two Hipsters strips here? Looks like it. Well, here they are:

I had to take a bit of a break to take care of all the JAZAM! design and editorial work, so I only got these two strips done in the last month or so. I should be able to go back to finishing one strip per week very soon, though!

If you lost track of the "Hipsters Vs. Dinosaurs" storyline in the meantime, you can go back to the beginning right here.

Karl Valentin comic

A few weeks ago, I posted a panel of a comic I had been working on, but didn't tell what it was for. Well, now that comic is not only finished, but actually already printed and published. It's a three-page short story in an anthology about Munich comedian and avant-garde artist Karl Valentin that was published by Volk Verlag, the same publisher that also published Wiesn-G'schichtn, the Oktoberfest anthology I was a part of two years ago. Like with Wiesn-G'schichtn, I again worked from a script by my buddy Oskar Rauch.

Here's chriseff's cover of the new book:

And a glimpse of my pages inside the book:

More info on the book can be found at the Comicaze website. Comicaze is the Munich comics organization that initiated this project.

Next thursday, there's going to be a launch party at the Karl Valentin museum in Munich, where we'll present the new book and exhibit a bunch of our original drawings, including two of mine. For more info on the party and the exhibition, check out the official Facebook event.

You can also order the comic at Amazon.de

HIPSTERS webcomic 067 & 068

Another 2-pack of Hipsters strips today. I'm probably not gonna post them on this blog here every week anymore, so if you're not fine with sometimes waiting a week or two for your extra-large dose of hipster comics, you should regularly check out the HIPSTERS website as well. (Or just follow me on Twitter & Facebook)

In the meantime, you can catch up on the rest of the dinosaur storyline by clicking here.

After another little break, here’s what some of you have probably been waiting for or whatever: The demise of the bros from the future! Are you happy they’re finally gone? Or are you sad that there’s gonna be less vulgar jokes now? Do you even care? Is caring about stuff totally lamestream?
Wait. You don’t even know who the bros are? Start reading “Hipsters Vs. Dinosaurs” right here!
